SEKNSW Rnd 1 recap

Saturday night 9th February marked the start of the 2019 SEK season and the all night race didn't disappoint.

Teams arrived early to set up and catch up after the off season but it wasn't long before karts hit the track for the first of 2 practice sessions.

With karts on track we focused on the newly assembled #71 Joker chassis being driven by SEKQLD regular Luke Gelding and Sydney based Craig Thornton and Aaron Grech.

The #71 was thought be lacking slightly but they managed to surprise themselves by landing the 2nd quickest time in Qualifying and a front row start.

Kart 70 spent minimal time on track in practice coming out of the trailer and on the pace straight away starting off row 4.

Our previous chassis now run by Absolute Painting and Decorating managed a 2nd row start in the teams first outing.

The green flag fell to start the race at 10pm and pace didn't stop until the completion at 7am Sunday morning.

The end result was a DNF for kart 71 after tangling with a slower kart at the 5 hour mark. While repairable the boys decided their first race exceeded expectation and fatigue.

Kart 70 stripped a clutch at 8 hours and dropped to 9th outright and 3rd in class.

The 00 kart finished their first race with minimal issues and finished 11th outright and 5th in class.

A promising start to the season as we await round 2 at Newcastle on March 23rd.

Thanks to Dave Oliver and Peter Gardiner for the fabulous photos as always.
